Memorial Day Memories

We had a really great Memorial Day!
It's been a while since the girls and I had done any kind of baking, so I whipped up these cupcakes using a box mix, and then the girls went-to-town frosting and decorating them :)

While we worked at this, we talked about what Memorial day is, and why we celebrate it.  I also told them about their grandparents on both sides who were involved in fighting for our freedoms.  I've seen where families go and place flowers at their loved ones graves, who have fought for the rights we have today.  I would love to be able to do that someday!  Too many miles are in the way to make that possible, currently.  I think it would make it so much more real to the girls.
The sprinkles were from Valentines Day at Target's $ spot.  There were five little containers, so I just took the pink sprinkles out and they already had the blue in them (I know, blue for Valentines?  hmm.)  Worked out perfect!

Doesn't that just make you smile?  Frosting, sprinkles and cake!!  Yeah!

Showing off their little own creations:

After Jaron got home, we headed to my parents for a Brazilian cookout!  Yes, we are patriotic Americans!!! but we love us some YUMMY Brazilian food!
Courtney pretending she is fishing in the pool :)

Enjoying new outside toys that Grampa had bought that day!

Grillmaster :)

Mom made Pudim (poo-jean).  It's a mix between a custard and a pudding - SO good!

Dad grilled the Tri-tip,

and made Molho to go along with the rice, beans and farofa

Almost ready....notice the Guarana Antartica soda?  Unfortunatetly, it's no longer in production BUMMER!!!  My parents found these cans and snatched them up!

We like our meat still red and pink :)  Dad did cook some of it more well-done for the girls.

After we enjoyed that delicious meal, the girls and I had some pool time :)

A good family day, making memories!  Although we missed going to Tunkhannock's Parade!!
